“Those who fail to learn from the past are doomed to repeat it”. Sir Winston Churchill
&
“If you fail to plan, you are planning to fail”. Benjamin Franklin
Ok Christmas is over and we are hurtling into a new year. New Year resolutions attest to the fact that not many of us are any good with goals or resolutions (myself included). Many are broken – literally before they are made!
From a business perspective and personal perspective goals can be key to making serious progress. We can let life happen or take life by the proverbials and make it happen.
Quay Accounts watches the progress of many businesses – and we plan for our own progress. Those businesses that have a clear idea of where they are going and take time to plan – rather than make it up on the fly – are often more successful.
From a personal perspective – thinking about this process is valuable.
Planning to Fail – Reasons Resolutions Fail
1) Unrealistic Goals
2) Not Sustainable
3) No Clear Plan
4) No Support
5) Scattered Approach
Key to Successful Goal Setting |
|
What do you positively – REALLY want? |
|
Not Should Want |
Not Ought to Want |
Not Must Stop |
|
These do not present any positive impetus!! |
|
A big driver in succeeding is working out what drives us and doing that. |
|
So – A Positive Statement = I want to walk the pennine way in two month’s time. – Chosen because I really, really want to do it. |
|
Focus the attack – Choose one attainable goal and work on just that one goal. |
S.M.A.R.T GOALS
Make your Goals Smart :
S – specific, significant, stretching
M – measurable, meaningful, motivational
A – agreed upon, attainable, achievable, acceptable, action-oriented
R – realistic, relevant, reasonable, rewarding, results-oriented
T – time-based, time-bound, timely, tangible, trackable
